What a month May is shaping up to be! If you’ve been missing the races since the summer racing season ended, there’s plenty in store for you in May… Find out what’s on in this Month’s Tell Tales – out now online.
Fisher & Paykel Trophy
First up, it’s time for us to win back the Fisher & Paykel Trophy, once and for all. This trophy is contested annually by OCC and the Russell Boating Club. For the last two years RBC have taken it home with them, so it’s about time we got our act together and won it back. The OCC/RBC interclub series consists of 3 races on Sundays throughout May & June, starting on Sunday 5th May. The more OCC boats that turn out, the more chance we have of returning this trophy to its rightful place above the OCC bar, so get out there and do it! :-)
Elliott 5.9 Traveller Series
The Elliott 5.9 Traveller Series begins with the Opua leg of the series on 25 and 26 May. Kerikeri sailmakers and OCC sponsors Willis Sails are putting up a brand new Elliott 5.9 spinnaker as a spot prize for the race, as well as the usual bottles of rum as prizes for the top dogs of the competition. With prizes like that on offer, it’s no wonder we’re expecting the biggest turnout yet. More info here >>
OCC Winter Racing
The OCC Winter Series races begin in May, with monthly races throughout the winter.
First to start is the Anne of Craicor & Makana Ladies Winter Series on 12th May, and the Wet & Forget Winter Series begins a couple of weeks later on 26th May.
Other dates for your diary…
Remember it’s the annual Prizegiving ceremony & dinner on Saturday 4th May. If you haven’t got your tickets yet, get in quick! They’re only $10 each and include dinner, which is cheaper than it’s ever been in the past, only thanks to the generosity of club members like Ian & Merry Templeman who have offered to cook. So, you can save a bit on the entry and have a bit extra to spend over the bar!
On the social front, Darts Nights have started up again, and are on every Wednesday night throughout the winter. Plus there’s Bingo on Thursday 9th May and Quiz Night on Thursday 23rd.
