Have you thought about standing for the OCC Committee?

Being on the OCC Committee is one of the best ways you can show your support for your club. If you care about the future of your club, why not stand for a Committee position at the upcoming AGM? Every Committee position is re-filled at the AGM each year, so you can stand for any position at all, although we are particularly keen to hear from anyone who would like to take over the  Secretary, Social and Cruising positions, which are looking very ‘open’ for next year!

  • Secretary involves minute-taking at monthly Committee Meetings (most day-to-day secretarial duties are covered by Sheila)
  • Social involves organising regular social functions and outings
  • Cruising involves organising day-cruises and some overnight cruises, usually around one a month

To stand for Committee, you just need to be a full member, and be nominated by two other full club members – nomination forms will be available in the club soon. At the AGM (on Tuesday 19th June, 7:00pm), you’ll then need to be voted in by a majority of the full members present, so you’ll need to be prepared to stand up and say why you think you would be the best person to fill that position.

All the Committee positions, and current position holders, are on the ‘Committee’ page of the website. If you would like to know more about any position, you can contact anyone on the Committee for more details. Remember, no-one on the current Committee takes their position for granted, and a bit of healthy competition is always good. After all, it makes us all try harder!

Being on the Committee is a lot less scary than it sounds. Even if you haven’t been on a Committee before, or you’re relatively new to the club or sailing, don’t worry – you’ll get all the supoprt you need. The most important attributes are a desire and willingness to help, and a bit of free time to put in to monthly meetings and club duties.
