It’s going to be a busy week with the usual Wednesday and Friday races, plus all the Labour Weekend events. Here’s the low down on what’s happening on and off the water this week:
Wednesday 19th Oct
Cater Marine Spring Series: Race 4 of the Cater Marine Spring Series – first start (A Division) is at 17:45, followed by B and C Divisions.
Thursday 20th Oct
Bingo: It’s Bingo Night this Thursday at the club – get down from around 18:00 for a few drinks before things get going.
Friday 21st Oct
Ladies Race: The second Anne of Craicor Ladies Race begins at 18:00. Fantastic turnout a couple of weeks ago – lets see if we can get even more boats out this week.
Coastal Classic: The annual drag race from Auckland to Russell takes place on Friday, with most boats expected to finish on Saturday. The prizegiving and party will be held a day earlier than usual on Saturday night to allow boats to return home in time for the RWC final. If any of you are going to be taking part, please remember to take some photos if you can, and/or write up a short report for the Tell Tales. We’d love to hear all your stories.
RWC Bronze Final: Australia (teehee!) and Wales battle it out for ‘best loser’ – the game will be live at the club at 20:30 on Friday night.
Saturday 22nd Oct
Overnight Cruise: This weekend’s cruise will be the first of the overnighters, and will be leaving on Saturday, returning on Sunday afternoon so everyone’s home in time to watch the rugby. Please contact our Cruising Guru Les Alderton if you’d like to join in – call 09 404 0757.
“IT” Festival: Headline act The Feelers will be playing in Paihia on Saturday afternoon, along with lots of other food, drink and music-related events over Labour Weekend.
Sunday 23rd Oct
RWC Finals: It’s official – the All Blacks are going to the finals! The big game against France is showing at the club on Sunday night at 21:00, and we’re trying to get some more screens organised for the evening so we can all see the action. Remember there’s only a couple more days for you to book your FREE taxi to and from the club for the final on Sunday night. Simply write your name on the list at the bar, or contact Susan at Northland Spars & Rigging, who are sponsoring the transport.
Russell Race Re-organised: The postponed race out of Russell will be happening on Sunday at 12:00 – this is the first of the 5-race Duke of Marlborough Series and OCC boats are more than welcome to go along and take part.
